I found out about the safety switch on the new ultra. Leading a group of 12 bikes. Wife and I jump on the scoot, hit the start button, nothing. Check everything I can think of. I tell the group to go on. Everyone sitting there with motor running. A new ultra owner walks over and ask, is it in gear. I put it in neutral and she fires up. Harley with a clutch safety switch? Its about time.

Don't feel alone. Was cursing my pull start walk behind commercial mower for not starting when I discovered it was in gear. Seems to be happening more and more each birthday. I tell myself it is an experience reserved for those of us fortunate enough to have many (as in more than 50) birthdays behind us. Or it was a brain cramp.

Add thick leather wraps to your clutch/brake levers. Pull clutch lever in and push start button with bike in gear. Why won't it start? The clutch overide switch is position sensitive and adding thick leather wraps to your clutch lever can prevent the clutch lever from reaching the required postion to start the bike. Ask me how I know??? It's even better if you discover this a long way from home when the bike is new with less than 1,000 miles on it.
Got to love those experiences.
