I have a back rest with the stock SG seat and don't have a problem but I'm not very tall so I appreciate being a bit closer to the bars. Some on here have had success with bending the seat post back a bit to get more room or a more comfortable angle.

I had a similar problem with the backrest on my Road Glide. I removed the strap that mounts from the front of the bracket under the seat to the frame & made a longer one. Then I bolted the bracket tab on top of the new strap. That allowed the backrest to tilt back far enough that adjusting the set screw made it comfortable. Take a look at the mounting setup. Might just require a little tinkerin'.

I put a few washers/spacers under the front of the mounting bracket to move me back. It was just enough to make it perfect for me.

Put mine in a vise and bent them. Took a few tries. But now it's perfect. I'm 6'2 and when I first put it on, it felt like I was 7' tall!!!!

I put the bend of the post in the shop's hydraulic brake and increased the angle and the problem is fixed. Now it doesn't push me forward as much and I can lean back to a more comfortable angle.
However, I think the post is too long. I don't like the big gap it leaves between the seat and the bottom of the backrest. I also think there is too much slack between the post and the bracket, the backrest rattle around. Anyone find a solution to those problemsyet. BTW, my seat is a stock SG seat.
