80W-90 Gear Lube...
Getting ready to change oil in my trans this week...Went to local shop that sells Amsoil to get aquart ofAmsoil 75-90 SVG (from my understanding Amsoil fans use this in their trans). Asked for that and the guy didn't have it, what theydid have is Amsoil Gear Lube SAE 80W-90 and he said that was what I needed...is that ok to use or should I look elsewhere for the 75-90 SVG???

I'd go to the Amsoil website and look up that particular oil to see what it's application is. Maybe it's OK if it's got the right API rating. If you live in a hot climate then it may be better for you than the other, though I doubt 5W makes any significant difference.

Their site catagoried the 80W-90 with the other 3 severe gear fluids...they recommend the Severe Gear75W-140 for the Harley six speed trans to help quiet down the fifth gear whine...hmmmm, I may take the 80-90 back and look around for that 75-140.

RE: 80W-90 Gear Lube...
Well, I decided not to use the 80W-90...found a local independent auto parts store that carries Amsoil products, but the didn't have the Severe Gear [:@]. They had Royal Purple 75W-90 and 75W-140 Synthetic Gear Lube...decided to go with the 75W-90. Now, is the 90 lighter weight than the 140? I assumed the 140 was heavier, and living in southeast MI figured the 90 would be fine...Any pros or cons to the 90 and 140?

The AMSOIL 80W-90 is just fine. The only reason they make it is for those manufacturers that call for an 80W-90 gear lube and people want what the owners manual says. It actually is a 75W-90 gear lube when they test it. Esentially the same stuff with a different label. That was a nice piece of info I received at the last sale meeting
