Anyone having trouble with re-sizing their sig pictures (or any pictures) can contact me. Ladyglide has also offered to help. We are still getting pictures that are too big in the posts and sigs. I've tried to catch them and just resize them for you but it would help if you guys would read the Picture thread at the top of the New Members forum before trying to post.

Thanks

Yours is fine. That's about the max size it can be.

Thanks

I have a couple of suggestions regarding the new rules for limiting picture sizes:

1. The suggested limit of 250 x 500 is very odd. That's an aspect ratio of 1:2. A 35mm camera gives you an aspect ratio of 1:1.5 (24mm x 36mm). A 4x5 camera gives you an even more square aspect ratio still - 1:1.25 The suggested ratio of 250 x 500 is almost panorama like in it's characteristics. Very few people shoot panos of their bikes, and computer monitors are obviously not panoramic in their dimensions. A limit of 333 x 500 would be much more in keeping with traditional formats.

2. Does the limit pertain to sig pics only or posting pics as well? Since a sig pic is included in every post, but a post pic is perhaps posted only once, perhaps we should have different limitations for sig pics and post pics? Maybe 333 x 500 for sigs and 400 x 600 for posts?

3. In reality, it's the total number of pixels that determines the area of a pic. You can have 2 images that are 500 pixels wide, but one is only 200 pixels tall and the other is 300 pixels tall. Even though they are both only 500 pixels wide, one pic is 50% larger than the other. I think that we should be concerned with the total area of a pic, and not necessarily specify the limits on length and width. In other words, instead of saying that the limit will be 250 x 500, why don't we say that the limit is 125,000 pixels for sig pics, and perhaps 240,000 pixels for post pics? This way we circumvent the issue of aspect ratios.

Sorry to sound so technical, but I'm a professional photographer, and the 250 x 500 thing just wasn't making any sense to me.

[&:] At the risk of sounding really stupid here, I'm going to ask the question...

How do I embed a pic in my sig?

I've figured out how to embed a pic in a post, as you can see here. However, for the life of me, I can't figure out how to get it in my sig. Oh, and I've looked through the FAQ and couldn't find any help there.

Thanks!

There ya go! Actually 320 x 240 is the size that fits best in the sig and post area. 640 x 480 is max the post will allow without distorting the thread. You can use www.imageshack.us to resize them as you upload them. There is an option when you upload that will allow you to resize.
