Think I might end up just getting the detachable tour-pak kit.
I don't have the tools to cut the original license plate bracket like mike_oh and I have been to a few metal fabrication shops around my house. Shop minimum at the first one was $80. not paying that much to cut a $20 bracket.
Found a few possible solutions. also thought about getting some sort of novelty plate or something to put in the original location.
Ended up buying the detachable tour-pak rack and mount off kutterharleyonline for $227 shipped with front and rear docking hardware. Figured I could install the hardware and tour-pak and worry about all the wires later using this as a guide: https://www.hdforums.com/forum/touri...etachable.html
It's pretty simple to install. I found there was enough room to get to the hardware without the rear tire getting too much in the way. You'll just need a 1/4 drive ratchet and socket to get in there. The hardest thing is to get the plate light connected. I simply didn't do it but you can splice into the tip light wire if you want the plate light, or disconnect the tip light and plug in the plate light. Also, remember to get a tail light lens without the clear window in the top of it or you'll have light coming out the top where your plate use to be mounted.
