Brake lamp switch broken

Brake lamp switch broken
Well, went by the HD shop today and saw some grips I liked. Long story short, I removed the master cylinder while replacing the grips and forgot to do the little cardboard in the brake lever trick. You guessed it, I pulled in the lever after the install and snapped off the little switch inside. I do all of my own maintenance, but this looks a bit tricky to me. HD wants $75 to repair it. Anyone else done this?
Thanks,
Rick

RE: Brake lamp switch broken
The switch is probably PN 71590-96.
I haven't broken the switch, but I did have to remove it along with the other switches when I installed chrome controls. It wasn't difficult.
You probably just need to open the switch housing to remove the broken switch and splice in a new switch and reinstall it.

No need to run the entire wire to the other end to connect. I know about this (don't ask me how). Splice and solder about 2-3 inches down the wire. Pull the cable housing down and out of the way. I did not have to cut mine. I staggered the cuts so the solder joints wouldn't make one big lump in the wire casing. Took about an hour. Not the easiest job, but not bad, especially if you have an extra set of hands to help.

RE: Brake lamp switch broken
Its a RKC, so already has cruise control. I'm a little confused though. When I pulled in the brake lever, I heard something break, then saw a little piece of plastic fall out. The brake light still comes on when I pull the lever in, but the clicking sound it used to make as the switch engaged (I assume), isnt there anymore.
