Default Turbulence and buffetting.... help me

I've got a 06 FLHT and the buffetting is driving me crazy. It gets bad enough that its distorting my vision and leaves me feeling like I've had my head in a blender. I've added the chrome center baffle (helped a little) and the chrome wind deflectors (maybe some help but make the handling feel weird). I'd say about 90% of my problem is coming from the up under the fairing and not from over the windshield. Depending on how I have my legs positioned I can control how bad the buffetting is so I know where it's coming from. My question is before I waste money will lowers help this problem? I've actually got the bike for sale because of this issue, if I can get it to where it's tolerable then I'm keeping the bike.

If that's your bike in your signature you might put a higher windshield on it.

Ride well,

Using the standard 12" windshield, I have little to no turbulence/buffeting. You make think the problem is coming from below the fairing, but if you're using that short windshield, I strongly suspect it's the source of your troubles.

Clearview windshield of the appropriate height for you and fairing deflectors will help quite a bit. See my sig pic I have them both and am much happier.

The screen that's on it is 6" so I expect a bit of buffetting from it. However if it's only related to the short windscreen I don't see why changing the position of my leg should make a difference.

+1

No brainer....little windshield = little wind protection

I a sure you don't want to go to a large shield, so you may want to give something like a 8 inch clearview recurve a try ....it could be a combination of both.....buffeting from under the fairing, as wel as the windshield.

Do you have those "wings" under the lower edges of the fairing? They might help ya out....

When I use my Highway pegs I get a LOT more wind coming from below. I have a 12" screen but no deflectors. I'm thinking about adding the deflectors for colder weather.

Mid Fork Baffle did the trick for me.
1/2 dished chrome plate eliminates much of the wind coming up between the forks.

I use these and they help somewhat . Link
These are the black fairing air deflectors , I notice they reduce the wind at the top of my thighs and stomach.
The newer adjustable ones can be "tuned" for different airflow.Link
A slightly taller shield also helps , but you say you need to control the lower air flow.
After installing these , I noticed a slight "drag" feel at higher speeds and heavier steering , so I can feel them work.
If I had it to do again , I would go with the adjustable ones for better cooling in the summer months.
I also went with hard lower fairings and really found no difference from them with the under fairing air.
Cheap enough to try anyway.
Good luck.
Mick
