Canada Question?

RE: Canada Question?
For us Canadians to get in the US by road:
drivers lic. with birth certificate or a passport.
By air either flying to the US or flying into US air space to get to say Mexico...passport is maditory.
I heard this may be the last year to cross the border without a passport. It's going to slow the border down a lot.

Don't feel bad. I was stopped by the US border agents for an old misdemeanor charge they kept me there for 4 hours. If someone needs a waiver because of a DUI (Indictable Offence) it $550.00 to get one to enter the USA. As you can see, they treat people the same in either direction..

If you have charges on your record, it's tough going these days, and there working towards either side having to carry some form of electronic ID before the year is up. The date to start carrying passports was originally Sept 2008 but I have heard they have pushed that back again. It's coming though. I have my passport now just in case.

I'll just add to make sure that you've never had a DUI or you'll be turned away or have to pay a hefty fee to get in.
I was detained for over an hour and interegated over and over then finally allowed to return back the way I came.
They would have let me enter for money but I was just riding in at Idaho and returning back into Washington on the same day and wasn't about to fork over $300 to do so.
The DUI I have on my record goes way back to 1975 when I was only 20 years old and the only strike against me.
My bike was all legal,I had proof of insurance, wasn't carrying any contraband or weapons and was frankly shocked at how badly I was treated.[:@]

How long ago did you experience this?

RE: Canada Question?
That's bizarre. What's the rationale for this? They think 30 years later you're going to get drunk and rideyour Harley around Canada? And what's up with the $300?! That's even weirder.
I bet if you were middle eastern, in your 30's and sweating profusely they'd be afraid to even question you for fear of being accusedof"profiling".But it's ok to not allow someone with a 30 year old DUI in. [:@]

RE: Canada Question?
This thread has some very good information without to much bashing of each others Country of Origin, for that I say Thank-You.
I have read on other B.Boards horror showsof comeing into a foriegn country Canada/USAand going homeUSA/Canada, and my .02 is and has been if you cop attitude something is bound to happen that will delay your crossing longer than the wait till you reach the Agent who will or will not allow entry into the Country.
Since I have used my passport, the time spent talking to the Agent (Southbound) has been just a few moments to confirm my Country of Origin and what my Lic plate number is, as the tourpack shields it from the cameras >.
For the current entry into either Country check with your Federal Offices for passport req. this is the best way to get the official information and then we can pass on the good and bad expierences we all have had from time to time.
I once had a USBorder Gaurd with Oakleaves on his shoulder come out from the office and march right towards me and ask me what I was doing with his bike !!!
Man I was a little concerened cause he was like 6'6' 250lbs and a big black gun strapped to his hip,but figured he was intersted in the bike and such, so he did his interveiw there and then we talked HD and riding for a`few more minutes, when I got to the booth I handed him my passport it was scanned and off I went....
But , I aint to happy with the comeing BigBrother micro chips!!!
Cheers,
Rob
