Default Best cell phone carrier for traveling????

I did a trip last year form Ohio to Colorado, riding mainly highways. I have a pay as you go cell phone, because I not a big cell phone fan, and only have it for emergences. I found out, that the pay as you go phone coverage sucks. I could not use it most of the time. I plan onseeing this far country of ours, from the seatof myHarley. I would like a cell phone that works, as much as possible, so since this is a touring page, I'm hoping quit a few of you have traveled, and found the best cell phone carrier. I'm leaning to ATT or Verizon.

West, East, South and North, and everything between. I do plan on a lot of out west. I love the mountains, and have some family in Calif, and Vegas.

I have used ATT in the past and they sucked. I have used Alltel and like them but switched to Verizon when the kids moved out of state so we were on the same plan with free calling. They are pretty good havent had a problem. Talked to my wife back in Omaha while I was in the mountains of Montana and reception was perfect.

I have no issues with Sprint. I have been every where with them.

Let's see, I ride with guys that have all the other carriers(Nextel, Sprint, ATT, Cellular1 )and they eventually all ask me if they can use my phone. Wether in Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Colorado, Wyoming, South Dakota, Indiana, Ohio, Aruba, PR, Canada, and many other areas, my Verizon has ALWAYS had a great signal.

Yep Verizon here too.

AT&T in my area sucks and Nextel/Sprint has only 1/2 the coverage.

Not true! AT&T has the best coverage if you compare actual coverage miles. I know because when I moved to California I had to switch service twice! Went from Verizon which was okay (but few dropped calls every day on my way home), to T-Mobile (absolutely HORRIBLE!), to AT&T which never lets me down.

I'm not just atlking about the highway either. Lots of cells only cover the main highways, once you get off the main routes, they drop their signals FAST!! Not my Verizon, here in this picture, I am in the middle of Wyoming on rt 450 between Wright&Newcastle. I stopped to read the "Historical Marker Ahead" and laughingly pulled out my cell phone to take a look. I was surprised to see I had full bars. I had not seen 1 car for miles, in fact, sitting at this marker for 20 minutes not one vehicle passed me. But I had coverage!
