These are what the letters actually stand for. The other are correct but it is the definition of the letter. What I found dates back from the early days of harley when they started the touring line I think.
Harley's designation for the Road Glide is FLTRX, so that blows that theory out of the water LOL.

JFC !
what is with these one post wonders opening up FOURTEEN year old threads?

Anyone with less than 100 posts should be on post approval / review before they pull this sh*t

There is a reason over on Radio Discussions dot com old threads are locked.

History...

The FLH Designation started as a more highly-tuned version of the FL with high-compression heads, higher-lift cams, and polished ports in 1955. The FLH model was given a new frame in 1958. This frame included a rear swingarm suspended by a pair of coil-over-shock suspension units. In honor of this fully-suspended chassis, the FLH's model name was changed from Hydra-Glide to Duo-Glide.

So ,the H destination started with the Hydra Glide originally.

I asked this when I bought my first SG back in 2008.

The dealer owner shared that it identifies the model by features.

FL = Floorboards

H = Hard bags

X = Designated Street Glide

For example "TCU" = Tour Pack, Ultra Classic

The alphabet soup for a Road King Classic is FLHRC. They do not have hard bags.
