I always thought it meant street glide?

 

If it is true gloss black it's vivid black.
If it is like a dark grey with metalic flake it's black pearl. (thats what I have)
If it is a dull black with no gloss it's black denim.

 

I have a 1957 FLH. The FL is for Touring and the H stands for Hrdroglie front end. This as opposed to the FL's which did not have the same front end.

It is a little different than your link- although I could be wrong!

 

X stands for x-ray...cause when i ride my bike i can see right thru all the wimins clothes(good lookin ones only)

 

I don't care what it stands for! I love it!!

 

I guess I had always thought this way:

FL - wide front end (some Softails are FL bikes too)
H - touring bike likely a leftover from the aforementioned old designation for a touring front end assembly.
X - factory remark after they saw the stripped down butt ugly thing. X was all that they could come up with. LMAO

ALL you really need to know is FLHTCUI anyway. And that's easy to understand. LOL

I've got an FLHRCI I was told

FL - Floor Board Model Bike
H - Can't remember
R - Can't remember
C - Classic
I - Fuel Injected

 

It's rather simple,the letters FLHX are the first letters from the four words that HD designers came up with that best describes the bike.

Labarum
Hadeharia
Xesturgy

If you drank the bong water then your not going to know what the words mean.

 

I always thought the FL was for the type of forks on it and H was for touring. After that, the last letters were the model and whether it has fuel injection or not. I assumed this because of the Fatboy being a FLSTF. FL forks, softail family and F for Fatboy model.Maybe I'm wrong. Oh well.............................................. ..
