Default 2 Into 1 & Lugging

After two different sets of slipons ( after original stock pipes ) I am now running Vance and Hines 2 into 1 pro pipes. I'm totally happy with the results. I did have the bike dynoed with the slipon mufflers, with no where near the same results.

I'm looking for opinionsfrom those of you that are also running 2 into1exhausts on your touring bikes. I can now putt around at 50 mph in sixth gear with no signs of lugging the engine with this set up. I already know what the true dual and slipon people are going to say. Opinions please from those of you that run 2 into 1 exhausts.

Ah've got news for you - whether you wanna believe it or not, you ARE gonna damage the engine luggin' it. Wasn't gonna say nuthin', but didn't want some other poor soul to make the same mistake because he saw yer post w/o any challenge to it.

TRN
I respect your opinion! I have an oil temp gauge installed. I watch the oil pressure. I'm getting no signs of a struggle. No pinging, clunking, it sounds happy! I rode the same way with my pan, shovel, etc, without harmful effects. Whats the difference with the 96?

I'm not a mechanic, nor do I play one on TV, but my understanding is the crank assembly is made different now, and it will not stand the low rpms. It supposedly beats the bottom end out of them. I wouldn't know, I run mine like the devil is chasing me.[sm=badbadbad.gif]

Would pinging or low oil pressure be the only signs you would look for to indicate a lugging motor? Don't know about you, but my rubber mounted motor lets me know by shaking like an old wash tub if I let it lug down too low. Oil pressure won't fall (into the danger zone) since the pump is still spinning, and you shouldn't get pinging unluss you have carbon buildup on your pistons and you are running hot on low grade gas. Then, it will ping under load at any RPM.

My point is. I don't beleive the motor IS lugging now wih the improved torque with the 2 into 1 exhaust. It most definitelyWAS with the slip on mufflers.

I sounds like you know everything, so why did you bother to ask. When you tear your HD up I guess you can go back to the Cowasuki.

Reread the post!!! I asked for opinions from people who actually have 2 into 1 exhausts on their touring bikes.

Lugging or not, do you think what you are doing is good for the motor? Shoot, why not keep it in first gear and go like 80 Mph? If it's not lugging its all good right?

The point is, use the bike as it was designed and hopefully it will last a few years and bring you much happiness.

Mariner, use your tach!!!! I have no doubt your engine is "happier" with your new combination but you'll have fewer problems and it'll most likely last longer if you keep it above 2,000 RPM under load. My riding bud has a Streetglide with a 255 SE cam, SE heavy breather, and a V&H propipe. It WILL definately pull at lower RPMs than I suggested without shuddering, but it is putting MUCH greater torsional load on the crank. You may get away with putting the extra load on the crank for the life of the bike, but why take the chance?
