The ones I have done so far.
1000 miles in 24 hours
1500 miles in 36 hours
1500 miles in 24 hours that was the hard one
These are all IBA rides
As far as a long trip the best one so far is 9,360 miles in 10 days camping the whole time.
The day after I got home some friends call and wanted me to join them on a ride it was hard to get back on but I did and we made another 600 and change ride.
Tim, I checked out your member profile and you don't list the bike you ride. Those are some impressive rides you have listed. Just curious as to what you did those on. My son just did the IBA 1000 mile from Pueblo Co to my house here in Meridian, Id. total of 1004 miles and received his certification on his 2007 Street Glide.
The bike I did all those rides on is a BMW 1150 Adventure.
I had Harleys from 1978 until 2002 I had 9 different ones then I got away from Harleys for the last few years.
My Main bike is the BMW my second bike is a 2006 Ducati Sport 1000 all tricked out and now I Jumping back on a Harley.
08 Ultra It is going to be for me and my wife to travel the country on vacations.

Not that it matters but I did the first two The SS100 and the BB1500 with a group I ride with we had 9 all together of the nine I am the only one that they lost the paper work on everyone else went through and received theirs. Then Katrina finished up with the copy's I had. The group and Iwent on the next one and because according to IBA I did not qualify. Because you have to have done the first two I just gave up on documenting it with them and just do for my self knowing I have done them. I just don't care enough about it to re do them. Also most of therest they have listed I don't think I could do anyway. The ones I have done are not that big of a deal anyway the only hard one was the1500 in 24 hours bad weather and construction got me big time I made it with 23 min to spear. The 9,360 mile trip was areal trip no letting at all had to keep pushing day after day it was fun but hard at the same time. I just wish I was 20 again instead of 50 it would sure make it easer.

In '93 I did a ride from Merritt Island to Gatlinburg, TN about 670-miles straight through. I went up to Brunswich, GA and turned left, took a bunch of logging roads, lots of little towns,it was great! I made it in about 11.5-hours, but I took my time and averaged about 100-miles between pit stops.

I don't like driving Interstates at all. Talking about road hazards at night, try swerving around a wooden pallet in the middle of the lane a 70 mph on I-75. That will get the adrenilan pumping! Happened on the way back from Gatlinburg.

It's a piece of cake
Read the tips on the IBA site
Document everything; they like that

Plan your route so you can avoid big cities or at least go through at night or early in the morning(less traffic)

1,014 miles in less than 14 hours
Got to love the interstate and radar detectors

Here is my experience of a few weeks ago:

Thought I’d share my experience of this past weekend since there have been questions about long rides.
This was a long planned well thought out ride with 6 other riders all Gold Wings except for me. The route and all stops were GPS planned. We headed out of Ft Worth, TX westbound towards El Paso at 7 am (Sun to our back both ways). Weather was pretty good with a few clouds and mist early on. My newly reconditioned Mean City seat and a sheep skin cover made a world of difference. Honestly my butt felt the same at the first few miles to the last. At about the 400 mile mark we hit a stretch of freeway with 80 mph speed limit, so I let’er rip. Just about the time I was thinking the King was running great it coughed, and lost power. I had an idea on what happened and look down to see a lot of smoke and oil. The King threw up all over it self and it dawned on me that when I checked the oil it was FULL. This happened once before last year and from this forum I learned that this is sometimes a common problem when you over fill the oil. Really freaked out the Gold Wing guys since they were sure another Harley bit the dust. The only thing I could do was to keep riding and blow the over-flow oil all out. What a mess but once it got to a level it was satisfied the King ran great. We made it to our turn around point at 4 pm. 510 miles in 9 hours. Our gas stops were no more than 20 minutes. After an hour dinner break we headed back. The last 200 miles were probably the toughest. My shoulders and lower back started aching enough to really bother me. We finished the 1020 mile ride in 19 hours. My suggestions:

A Good seat,
Good sounds,
Earplugs to keep the road noise down and tunes more enjoyable.
Credit card for Gas
Good nights sleep
Stop every150 mile or less, obviously we could have stopped more often and for longer times, we had plenty of time.
[ul][/ul]

In summary it was a great experience. I now know how I will hold up and at what distances I can tolerate. A 500-600 mile day ride is very doable if need be. I knew I had made the necessary modification to my bike so that it FIT ME. Well maybe I’ll change out the handle bars some day. For all you wondering if you can do a LONG ride, I’d sure you can! Plan well, prepare and have a hell of a good time.

Personally, I haven't done it yet. However we considered it last year. The best time would be summer solstice for the amount of daylight.

What we had planned for the trip was leave DFW in the morning. Head west on I-20 to Midland, north (pick up I-27) to Amarillo, east on I-40 to OKC, then south on I-35 back to DFW. The sun would be at your back for well over 50% of the time. If you are somewhat hardcore, your fuel stops are a quick off the freeway and back on. Some snacks and water on your scoot with you. Definetly a stop of 20 - 30 minutes after 350 and 700 miles.

Day before: eat right, sleep right. Stay away from caffiene drinks.

Plan it right and it shouldn't be a problem. Don't push it. Tired - stop you have 24 hours to do it.

Good luck.

I have done the :
1000 in 24
1500 in 36
And I am about to take off for my 1500 in 24. Leaving from Davenport, Iowa and ending up in Las Vegas, NV. After that I plan on a slow ride home. The first 2 rides I did with 5 friends but we can't get our schedules to line up so I may be doing this one solo. The trip out will be a bit boring but the way home will make up for it. What ever you are planning I say go for it, the only rule you should follow is to have fun.

It's not as hard as you might think, if the bike is comfortable for you. I did my first on a DynaWide Glide with no windshield, the day after ordering a BMW K1200LT. When I picked up the LT a week later, I wanted to schedule my 1,000 mile service. When I didn't like the date that was offered to me, the service manager asked "How long will it take you to ride 1,000 miles." I replied "The last time it took 20 hours, but I got stuck by some RVs for a while." I got an earlier date.

I have completed the SS1000 inabout 15-16 hours. Finishedthe BB1500 in 36 the next day. Last Aug I rode from NC to KS for a BBG1500 in less than 23 hours. On 16 May me and 3 friends are riding a 50CC, Jacksonville, FL to San Diego, CA in 2 days. I have my methods and patterns, but pretty much if your average speed, including stops, is less than 65 mph you should make the rides in time. Let me know if you have any questions. Good Luck!!
