gold wing got me
I was coming home from town yesterday evening, about sunset. I have a four mile stretch of smooth, rural blacktop to run to my turn off. I was behind an older couple on a gold wing as I was leaving town in the 30 mph speed zone.
We got past the speed zone, I opened up the throttle and waved to them as I passed them. I got to my normal cruise speed of 100 mph and wasn't looking back. I backed down to 90 mph for a very gentle S curve................ as soon as I straighted out, I saw a headlight right on my tail.
The old folks on the wing passed me like I was sitting still. All I could see as they came around me was he was still wearing his ball cap and they were both smiling like a couple of teenagers as they waved at me.
I guess they figured I needed a lesson after acting like my bike was fast or something.
I wouldn't trade my SG for a dozen wings, but it was a fun reminder to see my 103" isn't that much in the real world. I'm sure it made the old couple's day too.

RE: gold wing got me
Don't underestimate those Goldwings. They really are very nice touring machines. Just not everyone's cup of tea. Honeslty, if I were big time into long distance riding, which I am not, I'd probably get one of those over an Ultra Classic. You see a ton of old Goldwings around with a ton of miles logged on them and they still run strong. Gotta' give credit where credit is due IMHO.

ditto, rode with the boys the other night. 1 guy has a BMW1200LT, now up until now, I had avoided riding that bike. Temptation got the better of me. had a long lonley streach of road ahead of us, and 1 guy streached his e-glide out. tag had begun. at 125 indicated, I flew past him with no shaking, buffeting and could even hear the radio. switched back to my SG and did the same thing on the way back. i can tell you the SG was a lot more exciting at 125 then the bmw. still would'nt give it up. but for a 2nd bike.........

RE: gold wing got me
Before my Ultra I had and older (97) 1500 Gold Wing. It was definatley quicker of the line than my Ultra without a doubt. Last year I had a chance to ride the 1800 Wing and let me tell you that it is a sport bike with bags and a bigger windshield. It handled like it was on rails and was quick and fast. No surprise the couple blew by you. All that being said I still would not go back for anything. I find my Ultra more comfortable than either of the Wings. Honda does make a nice product but it still doesn't compare to my HD.
