Default RE: SG 08 VS SG 09 (which one do I get??)

ORIGINAL: VARDR

Here I sit waiting to return to the states from this desert vaction so I can pick up my ordered 08 SG. I stop by the military sales rep and they start talking about the 09's being available for order in July with a delivery date of Oct. Well since I don't return until the beginning of Sept, I am wondering if I should just go ahead and order an '09 SG. Sales rep it will cost about $800 more but they don't know for sure. They say that the '09s will probably have ABS as a standard feature. So what do you all think, do I switch my order to an 09' and forefo riding the bike for a month or stick with the 08' and be able to ride when I return. The only other concern is that the "add ons" exhaust, A/C and fuel management might not be available until the 09' riding season, which i guess is OK. What do you all think...

thanks
It is your call but cant you just get the ABS option on the 2008? If they do make the ABS standard, they are going to bump the MSRPs up to cover the increase in cost. Iam sure HD will bump the msrps up $300-$500 even without the ABS. Either way, get the ABS Brembos...she will stop on a Dime!I would not buy a 7 gallon gas tank bike...the 6 gallon really has me spread and I can just flat foot the ground.

I believe you can buy the 08 now and lock yourself in before they run out of allotment of 08 bikes. Once the 09 bikes come out you can upgrade the contract to a 09 bike if you see some changes worth while. If you don't like the 09 bike and locked into the 08 and the price is reduced to sell off leftover stock you get the discount on the 08. Talk to the salesman and verify to be sure but I'm picking up mine in 3 weeks and have changed my contract from a 07 to 08. I even added the ABS before it was available on the contract.

Thanks for all the advise, you all are a great sounding board. Based on your responses I think the best course of action is to hold onto my already ordered 08 SG until I find out what the 09 SGs have to offer (paint, options, upgrades etc). The one thing good about being over here is I can cancel, change or upgrade my order all the way up to delivery. I am sure I will back on here asking your advise once we all find out the upgrades on the 09s. Thanks again for the informative advise, I realize it is up to me, but all the opinions really do matter. Hooah!!!

Either sign up for the '09, or wait and see what the '09 specs are. By the time you're getting back you either be waiting one month for the '09, with new improved goodies, or be getting a better price on the outgoing '08 model year. The ABS is a definite safety benefit. You're in a good position to leverage for your best interest.

Good luck on getting home soon.
