Keeping the black on engine looking good

RE: Keeping the black on engine looking good
How 'bout the edges of the aluminum fins- once we get the black brightened up anyone got any good ideas on polishing up the fin edges? Really takes away from the look of the bike to have all the chrome shining, the black blackened, then row upon row of corroded-looking silver fins... [8D][&o]

RE: Keeping the black on engine looking good
I have had very good results keeping my black painted engine cases black and looking new,by doing the following .. after a good washing, let the bike dry then spray the black paint and cylinder fins with a light film ofsilicone lube,in a spray can. Let it dry and you'r done. I have a 1999 Road King with 80,000 hard miles on it, and the black on the engine still looks new.
As an added bonus, you will find that the road dirt doesn't stick nearly as bad, and when you wash the bike the nex time, the dirt washes off a heck of a lot easyer.
On note of caution: Don't spray the silicone on the tank or fender paint, becouse then your wax won't stick to the paint. Also don't spray it on the brake rotors.
