Posted this in the Road Trip section but I want to give my touring Brothers and Sisters a chance to help.

I'm planning to take a ride from Monterey, CA to DFW, TX. Has anyone made the trip from the Cali Bay Area to Texas? What route do you recommend? I've got a week to play with next month for a roundtrip.
