Stop & Go Traffic Heat Recommendations?

RE: Stop & Go Traffic Heat Recommendations?
Just ride it and don't worry. I have been riding HD police motors at work since 2000 and overheat them all the time. I kick the engine management on sometimes oncea shift. The 2003 I ride is still going strong.........BTW, we use HD dino in them.

Go with a fan that was mentioned earlier. It bolts on over where the horn is and works very well. Police Motors typically use them due to parades. I have overheated my work bike while sitting directing traffic one day. I let it idle for about an hour and the airtemp was about 70 I think the worst part was that it started to leak a little primary fluid and when I pulled off it sputtered a little and after about a half mile it cooled down and was fine.

RE: Stop & Go Traffic Heat Recommendations?
Did the stage II on mine, so it was running a little hotter than when new..
First thing I did was the switch to the synthetic oil .. makes a 5 - 10 degree difference.
Tore out the useless air temp guage on mine and put in the oil temp guage in it's place..just so I can keep an eye on what's happening before it does..
added the oil cooler.. true it's most effective when moving, but even in stop and go traffic it helps a little since it gives some surface for heat radiation.
last step was the fan... which actually kicked in last year in DC during Police week.. so far, the "skip cooling" hasn't kicked in.
reminds me.. need to get those heat deflectors..

All of the above advise is really good. One thing I did that helped, but didn't relieve the issue was to installsaddle shields. I bought the Kuryakynsaddle shields click hereand so for they cut the heat way down, I'll know more this some when it really heats up down here..."D"

RE: Stop & Go Traffic Heat Recommendations?
If your bike goes into high heat mode,it will drop down to 950 RPMS. This is how you know it is in this mode, DON'T bring up the
RPMS unless you have to pull out. If the RPMS increase above idle it will change back to normal idle mixture, taking it out of high
heat mode making the bike even hotter.

RE: Stop & Go Traffic Heat Recommendations?
I have a Lanale fan on both of my bikes. Would not ever go on a trip w/o one. See the "cooling fan" thread under touring models forum. I have an oil temp instead of the air temp on my ultra. Went south to Gulf of Mexico turned right to ferry across Mobile Bay and on to La. and Ms. The temperature was in the 70's. In traffic @ Boloxi, Gulfport, etc,. I would turn the fan on. Oil stayed cool and so ded the cylinders. Turn fan off and oil temps would start climbing pretty quick.
