EG or SG; well, I went with the Electra Glide because it is the basic bike w/o any attempt at factory customizing. To this day Ive never understood why anyone would want a radio on a motorcycle but each to their own.

If I were looking for basic, and cheap, a blank canvas, I'd look at a police bike. At least you would have the black and chrome engine. Then do you thing.

I've got an EG Standard (2007). Here are my thoughts after about a year of ownership:

Pros:
1) Blank canvas - I can make it whatever I want (I'm going for a retro look)
2) Good value out the door

Cons:
1) Blank canvas - I have to pay to make it whatever I want
2) At this point I probably have close to $20k in mine, with at least another $5k-$7k planned by this time next year. However, many of these mods would have likely been made regardless of SG or EG. Just depends on your taste and what you want.

Retrospective
Had I known I would be spending this much, I would have looked harder at the Ultra. Not that I regret my decision (I love my girl) but I'm finding myself adding some things that would have been included with a Classic or Ultra. That being said, I won't be trading anytime soon; my plan is to continue making her my "dream" bike and keep her for a great many years to come. I'll probably end up with a retro, chromed-out Ultra Standard.

Bottom Line
This is probably an impossible task, but having a clear vision of what you ultimately want your bike to look like and what you'll be using it for before you buy will save you tons in the long run.

If the silver engine cases are bad, why are they on the CVO Ultra??????

Like a lot of people, I was drawn to the SG, but it's a cookie cutter custom IMHO. I like passing lights. I like chrome and lights on the front and rear fender. I like chrome bag latches. I like chrome bag guards. I like the fact that the EGS is a blank slate ready for me to customize. I don't understand having a radio on a bike (I have a car with a nice stereo that I will drive if I want tunes).

I like the Natrual with Chrome, one of the reasons I bought the EGS.

Guys this is like asking which girl is better---the plain one that knows how to cook or the smoking hot blonde with big cans
Sorry - pretty simple choice!!
I'm sure all those Standard guys are mad now, but most of them are on Ebay right now trying to buy used Street Glide parts.

So the real question is if the SG is so smoking, then why are there parts on ebay. Are you saying SG parts fall off or get used up real quick..Good Choice! Maybe all of us Standard guys are looking to score some of those cheap cheesy looking fairy mirrors!.

All in good fun, my boss thinks I'm working!

Too many things to change on both so I bought the Classic. Dont care for the SG windshield, footboards, pass pegs, seat lower rear suspension or lack of passing lamps.
