75w140 in my trans,, it seems to have quieted down quite a bit.. I don't think it's that big a difference from 75w90. Also, I only use 15w50 in the engine.. Mobil One of course! I'm sold.

After lots of research, I plan to run:
Engine - Mobil1 20w50 vtwin (if can find vtwin)
Tranny - Mobil1 75/90
Primary - HD Formula+

used to be able to find the 20w50 vtwin at walmart. i dont know about all of them, but the walmarts within 50 miles of here are discontinuing it... bastages!

I had synthetic in my old bike. I could not tell the different. Synthetic will hold up better in the heat.

I use the 90-140 Mobil 1 gear oil in my bike. It runs very smoothly i the summer. Fall/early spring I use 75-90 weight.

As long as we are talking oils... I just ordered $250 (delivered) worth of Amsoil. I signed up for their preferred customer program and saved over 20%. There's a link to amsoil through HDF on the main forum page. Now, while that seems like a lot, it was for 4 gal of 20w-50, 2 quarts of 75w-110 for the trans and 4 gal of 5w30 for my car and the primary. I'm good for both my car and bike for about 2 years. Buying locally, I spent about $10/quart for the bike, so it cost me $60 to do an oil change + filter.

I would encourage anyone thinking about doing their own oil changes to take advantage of the bulk pricing and discounts you get going to amsoil.

I'm getting 34 quarts of the best (IMO) oil made for $250. That averages out to only $7.35/quart delivered including tax.

Hey Stevo, why dont you put grease in your gear box first and let the rest of us know how it works...Oh wait, HD hasn't recomended that yet so you better not. HD never used to recommend syn oils on their bikes until they had their own label. HD USED to recommend Syn3 three in all the holes...I dont hear that coming from them anymore...but het they should know, they built the bikes right. Oh yah, be careful on the grease in the gear box, if its not HD oil you void your warranty.

AutoZone carries it on a small shelf back in the oil or gear lube area.Sometimes you have to ask for them to look for it in the back.
