Default Front Brake Question

Being new to my Harley...(and being an avid road bicycle rider/racer where we need to have the wheelsclear the brake pads)...I'm curious...if I lift the bike for servicing/cleaning...should the front wheel turn free or do the pads rub on the rotor? Minerub...should they be touching/rubbing onthe rotor when riding?

Might be stupidquestions...and...yes...there are such things as stupid questions...but...oh well...

Thanks for any info. in advance!

Default RE: Front Brake Question

They will rub a bit...mine, with the wheel off the ground and a moderate amout of effort spins maybe 1+ to 1 1/2 turns before the drag will make it stop...that is normal...

They do drag a bit, especially when you have fairly new pads. You can try shimming the caliper slightly (read very thin washers between the caliper and mounting tabs) to center the rotor between the pads a little better.

You could also upgrade to floating rotors which will also help.

So THAT'S why I had so much trouble racing bicycles?! Your Harley brakes sound normal.
