Default GPS WIRING

Hi,
Is there a way to wire a Garmin Nuvi GPS to my Road King but still have it
quick-disconnect ?? It is on a Ram-Mount now but just running
off the battery.
Thanks,
Jake

Yep, go to Radio Shack and buy a quick disconnect wire kit, it looks like the Battery tender quick connect. Cut the Garmin provided 12V/2amp fused wire harness and solder the quick connect wires to it, use shrink wrap, and then connect to any 12 V source, such as accessory plug under seat in fron of the battery or the 12v not being used in the light housing. Good luck.

5.99 at radio shack, or go to any auto parts store. They are called two pole flat connectors

When I got my UC, the dealer had installed a Battery Tender wiring harness. Can the shown connector be used to connect to the Battery Tender harness for power? I would assume so and also it could be used to power an electric vest. I realize the wiring for the GPS would have to be routed under the gas tank; but I think it is a better solution than using the accessory plug.

Get a 2 pole flat connector and solder it on a cigarette lighter/ power outlet. That way you can use the power cord on another vehicle,

You could use the battery tender connection if you wanted to, just as easy IMO to put the plug in-line and connect the other end to the unused HDI wires attached to the headlamp harness. Below is my install

Here you can see the connectors that you will find taped to the headlamp harness under the fairing

I think I understand what you are saying; but why not just use an auto power setup? This is a plug for the cigaret burner and a connector for the GPS that the GPS manufacturer sells. The Harley owner manual indicates not to use the cigaret power adaptor for other "appliances". I don't understand why. But has anyone else had problems with using the stock cigaret hole for other attachments? I would rather a more permanent solution; but am not against using the stock cigaret plug.

Thanks for the idea; but I don't quite follow it. If I understand what you are saying, there is an adaptor under the faring; but how do you get that connected to something on the handlebar? How do the wires come out of the inner faring?

I followed the handlebar wiring that is ziptied to the handlebar and runs into the fairing cap and behind the inner fairing. Here's a shot of the cradle that shows more of the wiring.

I think if powering a Zumo, the cigarette lighter should work fine. The Zumo doesn't draw much power. I think HD says not to use it for accessories which could possibly include heated clothing which draws much more power.
