Plastic under seat

Plastic under seat
My '05 Electra Glide Standard has a thin piece of plastic, (clear mylar type plastic, or almost a thicker Saran wrap type plastic) under the seat on top of the rear fender. My dealer says it is stock and it is to protect the paint of the fender from a rocking seat. The bike has a Badlander seat as well as the stock seat, and I think the previous owner put the plastic there to protect the paint from the Badlander seat rocking. My friend's '01 Standard doesn't have this plastic. Does anyone have an answer or comment on that plastic? Should it be there, because I want to take it off because the Badlander doesn't cover it all and it sticks and doesn't look good.

Its stock...I pulled one off of the wifes Deluxe as it was not fully covered when the seat and rack were on. I bought a new one from H-D (about 12.00) and cut it to the size I needed before installing. Works good, and you can't see it.
