Default Plastic under seat

My '05 Electra Glide Standard has a thin piece of plastic, (clear mylar type plastic, or almost a thicker Saran wrap type plastic) under the seat on top of the rear fender. My dealer says it is stock and it is to protect the paint of the fender from a rocking seat. The bike has a Badlander seat as well as the stock seat, and I think the previous owner put the plastic there to protect the paint from the Badlander seat rocking. My friend's '01 Standard doesn't have this plastic. Does anyone have an answer or comment on that plastic? Should it be there, because I want to take it off because the Badlander doesn't cover it all and it sticks and doesn't look good.

They are there to protect the paint. If you don't care for it and it sticks out, then pull it off. You can always buy smaller ones through a dealer to put under the seat.

I do not recall ever having that come stock on any Harley that I have owned. Seems like a good idea if it works.

If it shows with your new seat and you don't like it, remove it. If you ever want to put a different seat on and want to protect the fender paint, 3M makes a product, Hog Armor sells a product, and HD will prolly have something ,too, that you can put on.

Its stock...I pulled one off of the wifes Deluxe as it was not fully covered when the seat and rack were on. I bought a new one from H-D (about 12.00) and cut it to the size I needed before installing. Works good, and you can't see it.

Are they hard to remove later, Trailfndr?

The wife's deluxe has it on it. She wanted a Badlander and it stuck out so I just trimmed it so you can't see it....too easy.
