Default Street Glide Red Rear Turnsignals

I was told by the parts man at my local dealership that I can't put the Brakelight/Running Light Kit on the Street Glide rear turnsignals. That it's illegal because the turnsignals are too close to the tail light. If I had the wide turnsignas like the FLHT it would be fine. This is in Virginia, has any one else heard of this?

Each State is different. If you look into each State's Motor Vehicle Laws they will tell
you the minimum & maximum that turn signals can be from the center of the vehicle.
Personally I think your Dealer is wrong (IMHO) .....
The SG is sold in the U.S. that way so it passes FEDERAL vehicle Laws.
All the module does is make the turn signals become running lights & brake lights also.
It does not interfere with the operation of the turn signal feature. The ONLY gripe a
State my have is if they prohibit the use of RED lenses for turn signals. And I can't
see THAT gripe either because the trailer lights you buy at any Wal Mart or Auto store
has 2 rear red lights that act as turn signals also.
Rob ....

I've had that set up on my Road King Custom for about a year, no problems. I'm in Pennsylvania.

I heard the same thing in Louisiana. I have the run turn brake kit on mine. No problem so far.

I dont think the red turns are a issue either. Look around at how many cars have red turn signals.

The P&A catalog at page 373 says the kit, PN 69462-06A,is not compliant with US DOT regs. IIRC, HD originally offered the kit without this limitation in '06 and the DOT non-compliance issue arose later and the kit was removed from the Touring model portion of the catalog.

I've been using this in Georgia for 2+ years without problems.
