I've only seen it done in very large organized rides. I have seen and do with the small group I occasionallly ride with though have 4 bikes go through a stop sign at a time....always close together "as one"....have even done this in Sturgis especially when riding with new-comers who don't know their way around....stick close ride together, but no more than 4 at a time. But in this case all 4 bikes have come to a complete stop and the lead rider makes sure the intersection is clear with room for all 4 bikes to make it through. Might not be legal, but none have ever been stopped.

Just another reason I don't ride in groups.

JEEZ.. I guess all the MC clubs across the country should have to take "ROAD GUARD" off their vests..

Then as Well we don't need "ROAD CAPTAIN" because we won't be traveling in groups either..!!!

Everybody has an opinion..

WE are an LE MC club... and block when necessary or prudent.. No problems ever.. The on duty officers have never said anything to us about it.. Of course we don't do it when in like 20 bikes or less. etc.
So.... some do, and some don't, some feel it's dangerous to do it.. I feel that sometime's with a lot of bikes you almost have to do it to keep the crazy cagers out !!!

skratch, that is correct. if there is a procession, and i emphasize "procession" as opposed tojust a "group" of bikes or cars, you must yield to that procession. if there is just a line of 6 vehicles, everyone has to stop and yield the right of way according to the traffic control device present.

skootch, you clarified the exact intent of the law!

Definately illegal in New Mexico. Evey rider going through the stopsign or light can be sited for a stopsign or traffic signal violation and the rider doing the blocking can be sited for obstructing traffic, not to mention he would be civilly liable for any accidents caused by his actions. I never saw it done during my career, most of the time of which I was a Blue Knight. The first time I experienced it was after joining the Choirboys and saw it done on one of their rides. Yeah, the cops will look the other way usually, but in the law suit happy environment we live in today the thought of being the blocker just makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up!

Hey Heminut...this is Odd Job from CA State Board~SAA, met you in Tombstone I believe!!! How'z it bro!! The practice of blocking intersections for large groups is officially beingdiscouraged by the club for several reasons..dangerous, projects abad imageto the public and LEO'smust obey the law just like everyone else. So the only time the club goesthough intersections without stopping at signs/signals is by "official sanctioned escort-(means by PD)" AND only during an official event.Stay Safe!!

Its not legal anywhere in the U.S. I was on a charity ride last year and the local cops plus Troopers shut down I-5 and all the local access roads so that a whole group of riders could all get on the Interstate at once. That was something to see! And pretty cool of them.

I ask for Road Guards at the rallys. Usually we don't need them. But there is always that possibility that some people will not stop.

If the group is pulling out of a side road on a wide road with fast traffic or on a curveit can beprudent to have a person with bright colors and emergancy lights flashing for the safety of all involved. They can ride up the street in view and warn thecages and the bikers of danger. Does not even have tobe an illegal manuver. The intent should not be to block traffic so much as keep people safe.

A lot of clubs think it is thier right...[:@] On the other hand do you want to be a cage stuck in the middle of 2 groups of bikes trying to get back together?[&:]

If the group is especially large ours has been known to contact the local law enforcement to notify them of their intentions

Ex-cop here. I'd prefer to have my teeth drilled than to direct traffic ever again.
I'll stop, wait my turn, and most likely, I'll CATCH UP.
Screwing around with intersections is not my cup of tea. I can't say I adhere to the rules for speed restriction though.

We typically don't even do it when we ride in a big group. Once rode with a retired LEO who would get in an intersection and yell at us on his CB to "go, go, go" even with a red light...but I ignored him...can't do that legally, it's my life, and what's the rush!
