Uh oh metal in oil

Uh oh metal in oil
When I removed the drain plug I found metal in the oil. Not good. I cut the filter open and of course there was metal there too. The motor has about 32000 miles on it. To make a long story short, I took the motor apart and the only bad piece I found was the oil pump. So while buying parts at the dealer, the guy next to me overhears what I am ordering and asks me the mileage. When I tell him, he says "that's about all they are good for". Turns out he is a seasoned engine builder. HOWEVER, I have not heard this problem mentioned before. Has anyone else had to do this at such low mileage??

RE: Uh oh metal in oil
my RG went 95,000 on the original tensioners. I put new stock cams in then along with s/e pushrods, new lifters, newest revision cam support plate and still use the stock oil pump and it carries better oil pressure than at 22,000 miles.Inow have almost 114,000 miles on it now and still get 45+ mpg at highway speeds.

I've got 73,000 miles and zero problems. I just changed the cam chain tensioners at 70k and in fact they looked pretty good and couldhave gone alot longer problably.
I'd say 32,000 is very premature assuming the oil was changed properly. From what I see on here 100k+ is what you can expect for a well maintained motor.

My oil light came on when going to work one day, drained oil and found metal, turned out to be the innner cam bearing had failed, took the oil pump with it. Of course it didn't stop there, after closer inspection it also took a big divet out of the cam so I had to replace them also.

My bike is a '99 RKC and has 42000 miles on it.
When I changed cams last year, the gerotor oil
pump looked just fine.
Since your motor is apart, go for the Feuling oil pump
and cam support plate.
I would consider to go with gear drive. (gears/cams/bearings)
No more worries about plastic crap from the tensioners
pumping through your engine and oil pump.
