My fatboy was running fine at 25,000miles, but I had seen race car techs open up oil filters to look for damage, So I did. Guess what? little fragments of shinny metal, orange peices plastic. Took it to the dealer, Cam sump was full of chunks, but no visable damage to be seen. Took out the cams, and the hard casing on the end of one of the cams was all but gone! The bike was just miles from blowing up.

I just had the inner cam bearing, tensioners, lifters and the oil pump relplaced on my 01 w/ 28k. The Tensioners could have gone some more, the oil pump was worn out to one side, which I was told is a common problem. Lifters and cam bearing (torrington) done for good measure.

ORIGINAL: CREEPSHOW

Cam bearings in them years up to 03? I think where bad.
No, the rear cam bearing in all '99 models and some early '00 models was prone to fail. My bike was one of them. I rode it 52k miles with the "bad bearing" in it and never had a problem.
