Default Vary the speed under 500 miles????

I have read my manual and articles concerning break in for new engines.

All say vary the speed under 500 miles. I have found no specifics on

this topic. I was thinking about getting on the freeways, and running

at varied speeds from 45 to 60. Jumping off and riding through small

towns at every exit. I see little difference between varied speed, and

varied rpm. So my question. What is considered excessive constant

speed? Ten minutes 20, 30, or in miles if it is easier.

Thanks in advance for opinions.

I saw that to. Just ride like you normally would. Dont worry about vary speed. keep the engine under 4000 rpm, then under 5000 for the first 500 miles. Enjoy the ride.

...Thanks in advance for opinions.
I just rode the first couple hundred miles working through the gears (up to fourth) for about 20 to 30 minutes per ride. No periods much beyond those times and also let the engine heat cycle too.

I've done that with just about every new bike and so far, so good...but hey, that's just my method.

I rode mine to work (50 miles each way) like I normally would, keeping the RPM under the reccomended limits. I think what they are warning against is getting on the interstate and running a constant speed for hours at a time until it is broken in.

Chances are that when the kid that did the asmb/prep flogged the snot out of it on the test ride before you got your hands on it......how many miles were on it when you picked it up?
