Default Complete quality tool kit

I am looking for a quality set of tools that would allow me to do basic wrenching. I plan to do a Stage 1 when my SG arrives and I don't want to be without the tools I need. I also want to be able to add some chrome. What set will give me what I need for a good price?

I your just planning on working on your own stuff, then I would look at some the sets that Crapsman sells. When sears is running a sale you can get a good deal.
You could also go for the gusto, and get the good stuff, and buy a Snap-On tool set that is designed for use on Harley's.....either way you go you will still need 2 torque wrenches 1/4" & 3/8" and many many other tools. But if I was you I would heading over to the snap-on web site.

If you have money laying around that you just have to spend.............then yes go with the Snap-on, Mac, or any other of the "professional" tool manufacturers.
But if you want a good set of tools that will never let you down and doesn't cost you your first born plus an arm and a leg...........go with the Craftsman tools. With a lifetime warranty.......it's hard to beat Craftsman for the price and quality.

I would have to agree, for the backyard mechanic you can't beat Craftsman. My set is 23 years old and has not failed me yet. Still made in the USA as far as I know.

IMHO there's no need for a non-professional home mechanic to drop the coin that Snap-on, MAC and the others demand. Craftsman tools will exceed your needs until you start turning wrenches for a living. When you find the set you want... wait for it to go on sale (once a month, maybe). Sign up for the Craftsman Tool Club and save an extra 10% off the sale price.

Be careful with the Craftsman tools and ask questions....there are a whole bunch of them that no longer have the lifetime warranty, but only a 1-year, they are still pretty good, but if you are going to be more of an "occasional" wrench rather than a full timer the tool kits from Sam's or even Harbor Freight will do the trick at a lot less money.. With any tool kit you buy like the one shown above there will still likely be pieces you will need to add as you work on different parts of the bike. A good set of Torx bits and allen wrench....I ended up getting both allen sockets and a set of the "L" wrenches up to 3/8 inch. And unfortunately there are going to be some places where you need metric (10mm wrench for battery terminals and a couple different size allen's for brake calipers....maybe more that I haven't found yet). Be sure to get 2 torque wrenchs, foot pounds and inch pounds.

It has always been only the hand tools have a lifetime warranty. All other tools one year. Been that way forever. I also own a bunch of tools from various off brand manufactures and few claiming themselves to be good tools. Honestly my craftsman tools are better.

I have had mostly Craftsman tools for the last 34 years. These are great tools for the weekend mechanic.I do have some Harbor Freight swival and impact sockets because of the low cost.
If your making a living on your tools then thats when you have to start using higher end tools such as Snap-On ,Matco,Mac.
Just by a basic tool set and then add on the extras.Wait for the sales!
