RE: My 1000 mile Saddle Sore Ride
Great story and thanks for sharing. My "most" is 827 miles in a day so far, but that's cuz I got to Salt Lake City and that was my destination, lol. So I guess I could have done the other 173 miles that day, but of course didn't.
Congrats, you've got bragging rights and are among the Elite!
PS: How many sport bikes were there? hehe

Congrats on a safe and successful Iron Butt. They are not for everyone, but having done them they are a memorable group ride--not so much for the bragging rights, really, as much as a shared riding experience. I'm not much for the patch or the certificate (they're in a drawer), but the helmet sticker is pretty cool--and I'm not much for helmet stickers.
These rides are also a useful way to cover a lot of miles on a road trip where there never seems to be enough days off for a more leisurelypace. When two buddies and I rode from Atlanta to Sturgis a couple of years ago, we did Iron Butts out and back to turnthree day outbound/inbound travel times into two days--worked well for us.

Same reason some run marathons... It is an endurance ride. I rode one and loved the achievement. Would like to do another someday.

Congrats to you.........but I see absolutely no reason to take on something like that???? Is it bragging rights??? Is it like standing on one leg for 24 hours??? I give up...someone enlighten me

Congratulation! It's fun to do; but it can be intimidating when you are planning it. But, as you found out, proper management of rest and fuel stops makes it relatively easy if you really want to do it and if you can spend most of your time on an Interstate. I did my first 1,000 mile day on a Dyna Wide Glide with no windshield because I wanted the license plate frame the says "World's Toughest Riders"; but subsequently found out that the frame didn't fit on a Harley. My wife did a 1,200 mile day as passenger (and we had fun); but I've never been able to get her to do something similar again. Again, congratulations an a really special personal achievement.

Congrats. I am planning on doing one this summer up here in the great white north, Basicly from Windsor to Montreal and back again. I have got the timming figured out as well for 2 things sun positioning and city traffic. I plan on leaving about 10:00am and heading east that will get me thru Toronto at a decent time and then return thru it again at a decent time.
