Default Oil coming out of air shocks ?

I have a friend that has a 1999 FLHT, his bike has two air fittings abehind his right saddlebag. Is the front fitting for the front fork ? I used my HD air pump to check his pressure in his rear shocks and while checking the front fitting oil came out all over my air pump, is this normal ? What is a normal pressure for the front forks ?
Thanks,

my 99 used to spit a little oil out the air valve when checking. Was still OK after 118,000 miles though. don't worry about it. Yes, the front valve is for the forks.. ken

This is normal. As you pump in air, most of the oil will return to the shock, especially, if you unscrew the pump quickly after filling. Front pressure usually about 15 lbs. rear 12 to 18 depending on passenger load or handling desired. A lowered rear end should run a little more pressure. There should also be a sticker on the inside of your friends bags that tells you about
the pressure specs. good luck.

There is no separation between the air and oil in the front forks so oil is normal especially if theres little or no air in the forks. Do not over pressure the system or you'll blow the oil seals.
