Default Tour Pak wrap around lights

Hey all! Been lurking here for the better part of 6 months after moving from a Suzuki 1500 LC to a 2005 Electra Glide Classic. The EGC had belonged to a close friend who passed away the day my wife & I married. His family wanted to get rid of the bike and we thought it would be great to keep him riding with us in a way by buying his bike.

Anyway, you all on the forum have been a great resource and I have learned a great deal from just setting back and reading. Read a lot about what not to do (go a few good laughs and even more lessons from those posts) and learned quite a bit about things to watch for and other mods to your rides.

My bike does not have the tour pak wrap around lamps, yet I want to add these. I have noticed that there are two part numbers for the these; a 68012-88E for 05 and earlier and a 68172-06 for 06 and later. Are the tour paks actually different or are they the same and something else is different? Being a member of the cheap buzzard club, I have found a great deal on one for an 06 and newer, but want to be sure that it will fit. Any suggestions?

Yes they are different.
In 2006 they changed the styling of the light from a side only to a side and rear assembly.

2005 the light just was on the side

2006 it then was extended

to around the rear edge

Pretty sure they will fit, it's the plug in for the lights that is different.

I recently checked the HD parts manuals for the light bars on the '05 and '06 Ultras to see if the light bars were different. The two are the same for installation purposes (the black plastic, lenses, etc. are the same--I didn't check the connectors used for the bulbs because I was only concerned with whether the two versions were physically the same size--they are. The difference is likely the electrical connectors on the light bulbs and/or the electrical wiring to connect them inside the TP. If you can get a cheap '06 and newer version, it will fit just like the '05 and older version, but you may need to splice some wiring inside the TP for it to work.
