I don't care for the Heritage bars either. My former girlfriend has an '08 Heritage. I rode it and felt shakey with them. Compared with my Custom, it was terrible. I too had a dealer suggest those bars but it felt out of control. The hand position is way wrong.

Did you look into the Chubby bars? A lot of people really like those on the RK.

Did you need to replace the cables or just extend the wires?

The internal wiring was all that needed to be replaced because it was too short. The brake lines and throttle cables work and do not need to be replaced.
