J&M Audio vs. Hogtunes

I would say the amp is what you are lacking. I have an 06 SG in the shop right now. I've been plyaing with some different speakers, and amps. Like I mentioned in my previous post, the amp is what I had to do to get mine up to par. It is all relavent though. Kinda like mufflers, or an air cleaner, with no download on an EFI bike. Everything has to work together. Here's where you biggest problem will be. Size of the amp. So far I've not been able to find many that will fit behind the fairing. The other issue will be the speaker in put. Most out today are set up to use RCA jacks for in put. Back in the day, a lot of the companies were making "pocket amps". These had an in put option, where you wired them direct into the speaker harness, instead of RCA jacks. This eliminates the need for a conversion box, which get's the speaker wire in put you need from the RCA jacks, which means less stuff to clutter up your fairing. Unfortunately, they are pretty much impossible to find now. Being the pack rat that I am, I scarfed up every one I could find over the years. They work great, sound great, and are very compact. The J&M's work ok with an amp. I'll be able to tell you soon about the Hog Tunes, as I ordered a set last night. This post is the first time I ever heard of the Hawg Wired speakers, so I'm sure I'll have a set of them on the way soon. What it boils down to, most stock stereo heads don't have the power it takes to run a good speaker, thus the need for the amp. The Hog Tunes for the SG are supposed to be out sometime in late March to early April. I'll do some more research on the topic, and look around at some amp options. When I have more info, and can play with each of the 3 types of speakers in question, I'll post back. Feel free to email me with any other questions. I've spent a plenty trying to find the right set up. No need for you to spend it as well!

Put MTX's in my SG and they bottom out at about 3/4 volume. dhutchison, is this due to the speakers can't handle the radio or do the speakers need an amp for better performance? Can't rate either of the above but hope someone sees this post and saves about $120. Have heard Eclipse Audio on another SG and they sound fantastic, only problem is, they can not keep up with demand as I have been told. Looked at the Hog Tunes, but at the time of purchase they were working on a model for the SG, maybe its available now.

RE: J&M Audio vs. Hogtunes
Will do! I should have everything in by next week, and be able to post something by next Sunday. For anyone else interested on this thread..............I bit the bullet, got the Hawg Wired amp kit. [sm=jawdrop.gif]I know, I know. I gripped about the price, but hey, quality is not expensive, it's priceless. If it works like it was described to, it will be out of this world! If you guys can hold out for another week or so, by then I'll have tried everything out there, (spent close to $850.00 doing it) and can give you a first hand recomendation on speakers.

RE: J&M Audio vs. Hogtunes
Installed Hog Tunes last week and took a 600 mile jont. There is no comparison over stock speakers -- the proof is when you are cruising at 80 or 85 and can still hear the back-beat.
From what I read, the amp is next. But for now it's 100% improvement. Pez also advised trying the speakers first before spending extra $$$ for the amp.

I got the J&M speakers and like them over stock. Broke down and bought a Biketronics Titan amp (Awaiting delivery). Will try that and advise. By the way, I'm running the stock HD C/D radio and just invested in the HD XM (Zanottis). I had a Roady 2, but the Road Tech HD model has bigger buttons (Gloves) and is weatherproof.

RE: J&M Audio vs. Hogtunes
I had hogtunes and amp---great products---just was not putting out enough sound for me.
One of my riding partners on a metric had louder sound (not better--just louder)with a handle bar set-up with chrome speakers.
I installed 5 1/4 MB - Quart in the fairing, Polk Audio 6 1/2 in the bags, and a MTX 250 watt four channel amp in the left bag. Great sound but I want more.
I will soon be changing the amp to a 1000 watt slim line and put 6 x 9s in the bags.
Should have this done by next week--I'll post an update for interested parties.
