Default mirror, antenna & hi-way pegs

I find I have a large blind spot as car approach me from behind, I usually try going faster that everybody else to avoid that problem but when that fails I was wondering if anybody has found a good convex safety mirror that can be attached to the existing mirrors on a Street Glide?

I also want to replace the long factory antenna with a shorter one. What would be a good one to get?

And last for this post. Is a highway peg a highway peg or is one better than another?

Appreciate any and all help.

I had the same issue with my Roady. All I could see with my stock mirrors was my arms and shoulders. I had some stock mirros from my Sporty that are exactly the same mirrors except the stemsare 2 inches longer. They work perfectly. I checked ebay and there are several pairs available if you are intersted.

I bought a tunetrapper antenna and installed it inside my fairing. Removed the old antenna bracket and stuffed the cable under the seat.

I have Kurry cruise boards. They're great. Do a search and you will find several members here who love them.

www.jmcorp.com
Go to page 20 of the J&M catalog for shorty antennas. Have them on mine and they work great.
Have the Kury hiway pegs, just find one that fits your bike and the style you want.

you can add some long stem HD mirrors, or the mirror extensions they sell. Even with this setup and fairing mirrors, I still have a bit of a blind spot which makes me nervous when pulling my trailer. Found some small conves mirrors (about the size of a quarter), that i put on the mirrors. All is good now. Found the spot mirrors at an Indy in Reno last summer.

The antenna on the 2008 street glide is much shorter than the other ones, bought it from harley for 15.00 and it works great on my 2006 sg.

Here's a shot of my setup. When I first got the SG I wasn't sure I could live with the stock mirrors, but this was a good solution for me. They are stick-on wide-angle mirrors purchased at a local auto-parts store, the same type that I have on the driver-side mirror of my car. Shifting from the stock mirror to the w/a requires a re-focus, but I've quickly become accustomed to it and can shift my focus from the stock mirror to the w/a instantly. I mostly use the stock mirror, then use the w/a to double-check to make sure no vehicles are in the blind spot on my side. In their present position my hand does take up a good portion of the view, but there is enough view to more than cover the blind spot in the stock mirrors.

I had thought about trying them a bit higher to shift away from my hand, but haven't gotten around to it yet. I would temporarily tape these to the stock mirror and take a ride to check out the position, then permanently mount them once that perfect position is found. I think maybe the best position is higher than I have them, yet as far to the right as possible, as that area is not normally covering important real estate behind you.

I bought a rubberized antenna from Auto Zone for $8, but it was short and didn't have great coverage in remote areas. You didn't say what year your SG is, but the '07's can be cut down to any desired height. Loosen the top set-screw at the mount, then remove the antenna. You can cut it down, then slip it back into the mount and re-tighten the set-screw. I have mine cut down to about 30". I'm not sure if the '08's can be cut down in this manner, as they are much shorter and of a different configuration.

I've been using Kuryakyn Iso-pegs for years and they work fine. Much of that decision will be driven by style, as there are dozens to choose from. Kuryakyn has numerous styles and sizes, so check out their selection at

Attached is a shot of my peg setup using HD mounts.

I put on the HD 2 inch extentions on the factory mirrors, worked great... now I can see behind the bike, I cut them down to 1 1/2 " so they would look too dorky.

For a shorter antenna just go to your local auto parts store and buy a short car radio antenna...I bought one that has some coils at the bottom and it screwed right onto the stud for my antenna. No problems with reception and didn't have to worry about paying High Dollar for somethign from Harley.

I did the J & M shorty antennas. I did the HD 360 highway peg mounts with the Kury switchblade pegs and I got rid of the stock handle bar mirrors and did the Hd fairing mounted mirrors..
