Default 21" Front Tire on Street Glide

Help !!

I have a '08 Street Glide, and I plan on putting a 21" X 3.5" rim on the front with a Metzeler 120/70-21 tire. My question is, do I have to do anything to my front fender? I have heard I need to move the fender up to keep the tire from rubbing the fender and burning the paint. Others have said the 21" will fit without any modifications. If anyone has this set-up please let me know what if anything needs to be done with the fender.

Thanks[/align]

Only a very few lucky people have said the they didn't have to do anything to the fender. Best case scenario is you have to enlarge the rear mounting holes to gain enough (at least 1/4") clearance. Worst caseis you will need to weld in new brackets and repaint the fender. I used Native Custom Baggers weld in brackets.

Big is right, a few have not done anything but most have to enlarge the rear holes. I just drilled mine out a couple sizes and lifted the rear of the fender and tightened it up. I think a very few had to change brackets.

I didn't do anything to mine... Thats why I have a new front fender!! Better to be safe than sorry... My stock fender has a nice little crease in it where the paint buckled... Right @ the 10 O'clock point. Go to the hardware store get some 3/8ths rubber hose and tape it to the wheel and spin... If its clear you know you are good...

same size rim and tire, no probs. if you think it's too close, tape a stack of washersto the middle of the tire and spin it. if it hits, it's too close of course but at least you can gage how close by varying the number of washers you stack. also, you might have to use different sized wheel spacers or shim the brake calipers. i hadda shim the brakes.

I just saw a Street Glide at Thunderbird motorcycles here in Wheat Ridge Colorado with a 21 inch Arlen Ness wheel. Pretty sweet. Marty the owner there does great work and would tell you what you needed to do. I know I want to do it down the road. Paint first
