In my case, if I'm down......
just look for the reflection of a mirror,,, cause if the wife is taken charge,,,I'm sure she'll have to make sure she looks good before you guys show up!!!

IMHO Cell phone and GPS are just tools. No different than a tool kit, first aid kit or tire plugs. Carry them for if/when you need them. Use them if you want or turn them off and fly nekkid. Just cause you have it, doesn't mean you have to use it. Personally, I do not like cell phones but I carry a Pay-As-you-Go phone just in case. I may have to give some serious re-consideration to a GPS with this purpose in mind.

I've got the Garmin 60CX and it is a great tool. Use it all the time. One of the easiest ones to learn and use. As others said it helps find hotels, gas, foodetc. I never look at it when moving. The wife watches and relays theinfo to me about up coming turns etc.I too like to just follow the road, but can always find the way to the main road when I'm ready. We used it in Dallas last year. When that trip was over, I knew I'd never be without one again! It paid for itself right then! It took me right to some addresses I'm sure I would have never found otherwise. Just punched em in and went straight there.

I never thought about usingthe location for an accident. Good idea.

singlepin,

I never look at it when moving

I was gonna say that. I'll probly stick with hard copy maps. I'm not against technology but it represents more effort I am unwilling to give at this time. KISS (keep it simple stupid)
