Default Check the Rear Exhaust Bracket/Tab !

07 SG - 7700 miles , Stage 1, Ness BS, Fuelpak & Supertrapp SE mufflers.

Rode by the dealer this morningto check on a few parts on order. During the short trip I noticed a sloppy vibration develop and the left rear saddle bag shaking much more than normal at idle.

Got to the dealer & checked it out... the rear exhaust bracket tab, the small L shaped unit with a bolt thru it & attached to the starter bracket, hadbroken in two at the L bend. By chance the SM walked by to say hello & I showed him the broken tab... he commented "thats another one" and I followed him inside where he handed me one & asked if I would do it because he was backed up for a few days. Sure ...no big deal, a 15 min job.

Looking at the broken one, it was very apparant that it had been seriously over heated (blued) to the point that it hardened & fractured.

Later today, rode it back to check out the replacement, handed the broken part to a friend thats a service writer there... he said, yeah, seen a few do that ! Further conversation told me that with the excessive heat the 07 & 08s are generating at the rear cylinder, it could get so hot its actually crystalizing the metal L tab & making it brittle.

I failed to get the P/N but... in the 07 Touring Service Manual, page 2-177, its item 18 - Bracket tab

So, what your saying is, "keep tabs on your tab?"

j/k What about painting the bracket with some black high heat ceramic paint (engine paint) Maybe it will help??

Thanks for the tip on the tab - also read once in this forum about the bolt holding the exhaust bracket to that tab comming loose/off - checked mine and the bolt was gone replaced ASAP since they said caused flange problems/cracks - another thing to watch for.
