RE: 14k miles and first flat tire
Listen for air escaping
buy a gatorade soapy water works better, and pour it on your tire slowly rotate look for bubbles
Look for a cut
Maybe notice item protruding from tire
spit in valve stem and see if it bubbles too
Call motor pool and ask for technical assistance

RE: 14k miles and first flat tire
About two years ago, I got a flat on Highway 1 north of San Simon CA - middle of NO Where and NO Cell coverage... finally got all taken care of and decided to really look into the Whole situation on flats - repair kits and the such... Did days of searching here on the forum and found this product
http://www.ride-on.com/prod_mot.asp
Went to the site and clicked on http://www.ride-on.com/test_motorcycle.asp
Testomionals - I even went so far as to search www.dogpile.com white pages and ended up talking to several of the posters from the site... in the end I was very convinced it will work - invested about $40 or so and It is in my tires - I will never ride without it... It just may save my *** next time. and I carry my Raod America card - $30 a year and they will tow you to the nearest HD shop that can repair your tire. All the above suggestions are good ones - I choose to do all my reasearch and my choice was to go this route - I do carry a small Co2 kit - not real sure how well it will work and my Ride-on should take care of it..
