Default 96 vs 88 ci. worth $4,500 difference...?

Working my way up to a RKC... Can't drop the 20 g's for a new one just yet. I'm sure this topic has been worn out but, any advice on the 88ci vs the 96ci...? I won't do a ton of hi-way drives although I'll be there some. I've heard a few rumors of heat issues with the new 96's. Has HD worked that out yet? Would I be happy with the 88...?

Choices are: '04 RKC for $12,500 or bump to the '07 RKC for $17,000. Is it worth the difference on the '07...?

Thanks for your feedback.

you are leaving a lot of details out such as condition, mileage, add-ons...but, that being said, definitely the 07

I agree --- you can find an 07somewhat less expensive not cheap but a little less probably with upgrades

Last year I found a 06 RK custom with a 95" and stage 1 intake and slipons for $13,300. Keep shoping and good luck.

A 88ci with a 95ci up-grade will run circles around the stock 96ci

you can certainly find many fine examples of former 88" bikes that now have 95" and are an incredible value. resale on HD avor 3 years old is in the crapper so there re some FANTASTIC BIKES available in thet under $13k range. I would probably take the 04, for sure if it had a built motor as opposed to a stock 07. Not enough details in your post to tell which is a better buy though....

There were some transmission noise complaints with the '07s it was corrected with IDS on the '08s. IDS may have been added to the '07.
If you were comparing an '06 to an '07 and both bikes were similar mileage, condition and accessories I'd definately take the '06 for the savings.Your choices being an'04 or an '07 makes it a little more difficult.

The best deal is the 04' without any doubt. Listen, dude, for close to the $4500 differece, you could do a killer 103 or more build and still have change left over for a 6 speed. Do some research and check out your favorite Indy's. One I'd recommend extremely is www.cycle-rama.com and talk to Wes. Anyway, you'll be ahead of the game by far with the 04' unless you happen to want the newer bike and engine. Good luck.

Don't be silly...there's barely a dime's worth of difference among these (twin-cam powered) bikes unless you're argueing about cam bearings in '99s...but don't try to tell that to anybody!
They'll call you an idiot for not getting the one with the kazoo holder.
(Older bikes look new when you paint and polish them.)

What socal_pappy said.....get the 88 and upgrade to a 95 if power is what your looking for. Any mechanic who has worked on various years of harleys will tell you the same thing. Don't ask a dealer or dealer mechanic...ask a independant shop where you will get an unbias opinion.
