You mention the 02 being the best year...Why is that? I can definitely FIND an '02 as they are out there...
Lots of mention in response (thanks to all by the way) about speed and quickness. Not looking to race this thing. Looking to cruise the backroads mostly at 45-60mph. Will occasionally hit the highway but certainly not the majority of the time. Few posts lead me to the '04 unless I'll be on the interstate alot.
I had heard about some excessive heat issues on the 2007s. I rented an 07RKC for a day and heard alot of engine noise. Hard to ride an '04 unless you pay for it first.
I appreciate ALL the input guys. Thanks.

What socal_pappy said.....get the 88 and upgrade to a 95 if power is what your looking for. Any mechanic who has worked on various years of harleys will tell you the same thing. Don't ask a dealer or dealer mechanic...ask a independant shop where you will get an unbias opinion.

I've had all 3,..... 80", 88" & 96".
I gotta say a mildly trickedEVO was just as good as the stock 96

No Stage 1 TC88 I've ridden can equal a similarly equipped 96-incher in low-end and midrange performance.

A 88ci with a 95ci up-grade will run circles around the stock 96ci

I've been through 5 bikes in the last 10 years. I like the tip about "resale value"...that strikes a chord close to my heart... I'd like to think this will be a long term purchase but...I know my history...just in case.
Lots of good tips 88 vs 96ci...I appreciate all of the help! Sounds like I would be happy with either. I currently (as you see in the sig pic I guess) have the 1200 sporty and am used to the 5 spd tranny and have no issues with it on hi-way (the little that I do).
Going to the RKC from the sporty would not be the smart move if I was looking for quicker or faster I guess...right?
I'll keep my search going and see where it takes me. You guys have really made memore confident in my search. Again, I appreciate the help.
I'll update the post when a decision is made. (by the way...lost out on the '04 at $12,500...it sold over the weekend -it was white with low miles. O.k. cause I prefer black anyway. Funny how black is cheaper when new but, holds it's resale value better - anyone else notice that...?)
