Dealer Scratched Bike
Went in for some work today that involved removing the fairing. when all was complete and the bike outside I looked it over and saw a small scratch on the fairing just above the headlight about 1/2" in length. I brought to their attention and the service manageragreed that indeed it was scratched. he said he would call me tommorow to let me know what they will do about it. I had him write on the reciept that they would repair. He stated that they would eithr repaint or replace the fairing.
Not to thrilled with having to leave my bike there for a few days for repaint or even with the repaint idea. Should I push for a new fairing and do I have a right to that?

I used to work for HD dealer and fair or not we pay alot of money for these things and they need to be extremely careful when they are working on our bikes and if they damage them they should have to fix it to our satisfaction and not what's easiest on their pocketbooks.

Really? A good touch-up man can repair the damage in minutes, and you'll never know he did it.
So, by that analogy - where do YOU work and what do you do? Because I want to know what happens when you do minor damage to something, and how far YOU will go to correct it. Sorry, but I'm a businessman - if I screw something up, I'll make it right - but it's going to be within reason. I've been in business 32 years, do zero advertising because my referrals keep me busy enough - so I think I've done right by my customers. Replacing an expensive part because of a minor scratch is REALLY over the top, IMO.

You damage it then you fix it...so long as I can't see the place once it is done then fine...If I can then it is not done good enough and you should replace.
If that is reasonable to you then we are on the same wave length.
Had a car once with 7K on the clock, every time it went into the dealer it came out with a problem we didn't have before...after a lot of back and forth they REPLACED the car for a new one!
Pretty amazed but I have to say that was the best customer service I have ever come across and I will never forget!!

A dealership(at least the one I work at) realizes how picky we are with our Harleys and IF someone will fix the scratch to where it cannot be seen under ANY lighting conditions they will, but I can tell you that even the best painter will have to do some prep work and painting so if the price exceeds over half of what it would cost to replace with a new one, the dealership I work at will replace it, keep the customer happy, and move on. I would do the same if I was the owner.

I scratched the top of one of my hard saddlebags the first day on my SG. My daughters helmet was rattling on the top of it as I rode home. Thought it was trashed. I took it to the dealer and they buffed it out so you couldn't even see it. They can fix it fine and won't cost them squat.
