Default 1000 mile service / warranty??

This might be a crazy question, but does the initial service need to be done by the dealer to maintain warranty or if I do it myself, do I just need to keep the receipts for any potential future issues? Thanks in advance.

I've always had dealer do initial service on a new bike and done my own
service after that.

Is there a specific list of things that need to be done and can one do ALL the 1000k service in a driveway?

The dealer cannot force you to complete services at the dealership, however the manufacture can make things compicating if the first service is not completed. I would recommend for ease of sake taking to the dealer for the first service. If any warranty issues come about, you have the backing of saying, you guys checked it. It will create less headaches if warranty is wver needed. I know I am going to get flamed now but, I have been in a delaership for 15 years, I am just trying to help.

I let the dealer do my first service and ran it about 500 miles and dumped all the oil for synthetic. Sorry, i hope i did not offend anyone with that dirty "S" word.

No matter what you do.
If the dealer and HD decides to not cover anything under warranty
they won't.
It is up to use to prove to the judge that it is covered under warranty.

Unfortunately other than myself, I don't know of anybody here that has the *****
to stick up for their belief and take the stealer and MOCO to court over anything.

So in the end do what you want.
But no legally by the MOSS MAGNUSON act you can have anybody do it and not void the warranty.
Right now G/F has a dealer saying a Carquest brand (made by Wix) caused her oil tank to explode.
Just got done talking face to face with Wix filter tech person (face to face).
He says it is impossible, but will send filter to be tested.
After we pay stealers bill we will have to go back to court once again.
To get our money back.
You know why we have to do this?
Because the rest of you ain't got the gonads to do it too and STOP the moco from doing this in the first place!

I agree with Gutman.....
There are more things to check and service than just changing the fluids...There are the critical fasteners and visual inspections.
If you failed to follow a service procedure and something failed directly related to that procedure...who do you blame?

Now I am not siding with anyone on this oil filter / oil tank deal.....but my opinion is that I would have had an independent source look at my filter...If I was the manufacturer of the filter I certainly wouldnt admit to anything either....Now that the filter has disappeared who knows? They were designed to operate this way and well.....it didn't??????? Sometimes we are quick to blame MOCO for ALL the problems and trusting of other manufacturers...whats wrong with that picture?
