I wear a full face helmet any time I'm on the bike. 30 years ago Iwas the firstperson on the scene of an accident where someone landed face down in the gutter wearing a 3/4 helmet. It wasn't pretty. I feel naked now without the full face.

Half Helmet. Been thinking about picking up a 3/4 or Modular FF for the winter.

I have but I had a face shield on and the shield got scratched pretty good but no other damage. I have also gone down with no helmet and had no face or head damage. I also rolled a car in my youth, was ejected at about 80mph, was not wearing a helmet and the only head damage was from my head hitting the caved in roof before I was ejected.

I don't wear a helmet now unless it is cold or I am riding in a state that requires it. Then I wear a half helmet because it is easy to pack.

Oops. Just realized you said 1/2 helmet. When I went down and scratched up a face shield, I was wearing a 3/4 helmet.

ACC non-DoT beanie for rolling around town when weather is at least decent. ACC DoT half for work and longer trips, again when weather is good. H-D modular for rain/hail or 1125 riding.

I wear a 3/4 fulmer whenever it's not freezing or raining. Otherwise, I go with the full face.

German researchers Dietmar Otte and Gunter Felton did a study on the distribution of head impacts in motorcycle crashes which they published in 1991. Despite it's age it is the most recent study of it's kind. From their findings a half helmet will only protect the head from 1 in 4 head impacts. 3/4 helmet does not protect the nose and chin where 45% of head impacts occur in a crash.

Personally I wear a Scorpion EXO-700 full face helmet. I like the fact the liner can be removed to be cleaned.

From the study, impacts to the......
- top of head 0.8%
- top forehead 3.5%
- lower forehead 18.3%

Protected by Full Face and 3/4 helmets
- back of head 15%
- back top of neck/lower head 4%

Protected by Full Face Helmet
- eyes and nose 10.7%
- chin 34.6%
