Disappointing Lesson (Re: Physics) - 600watt Sound System (March 19th)

RE: Hotrod Bagger w/ 600watt Sound System (Video & Sound) Crank it up!
GlideMan,
I am sorry to hear this, but was wondering how this was going to work for you. As I am sure you know from other car stereo installations bass is non directional and when dealing with six inch mid subs I was not sure you were going to get what you where looking for when moving. You may want to consider putting anA$$ Kicker inyour seat for that simulated bass while riding. This may trick your mind into thinking there is more bass then there really is?
You are right though this is gonna be one hell of a conversation starter a shows and rallys. Congrats on the install.

New systems complete and I got a lesson in physics this week. (Sound is directional on a motocycle)
While the new system rocks in the parking lotsI gotta tell you, adding subs (suspecting this applies to rear bag mounted speakers as well)really sucks when your moving cause you can't frickin hear them. I'm suspecting it's because your moving and the sound isn't directionalwhereby it's left behind as you move forward. I took it on a road test the other day and although the front is clear and loud, I cannot hear the subs at all when travelling. I also think the sound of this Big Bore Motor w/ Boarzilla Pipehas such a low rumble that it cancels the bass waves when it's running cause it even sounds muted when I fire the bike up and i'm sitting on it. If you walk around the back, sure you can hear the depth from the bass but it takes standingbehind it to hear the bass response when it's running.
So, while it might look impressive, and certainly sounds impressive at a stand still, it lacks big time when rolling cause the sounddoesn't have forward direction. To sum it all up, it's gonna begreat when partying at the rallies and makes a great conversation piece in show and shines, but the bass just isn't there while riding it. Regrets, none really. Changes to come, unsure as of yet? But if any of you guys are thinking of following suit, just know that it's great for bar hopping and boulevard cruisingbut sucks when you're looking for bass and depth at normal riding speed! Maybe i'll just add another pair of speakers to the front fairings when they come in and see how that sounds. Arghhhh!

ORIGINAL: Yardstick
Man, I did the math and if you run the whole 600 watts that equates to 50 amps....I don't think the stator/rotor is even close to that rating.....any charging problems?

Actually bass frequencies are non-directional, they radiat out and without an enclosure (house or vehicle interior) to keep them enclosed........the sound waves just goes in every direction.
Mid-range and high-range frequencies are directional, that is why you aim the speakers towards your listening position.
A few other people have tried subwoofers on bikes with no luck, no matter how much power or how big of a subwoofer you use.........the sound has nothing to keep in enclosed. I've heard of people turning their tour-paks into subwoofers, but it still doesn't work.

Sound travels over 750mph. A 60mph headwind won't make much difference. You're not leaving the sound behind. If someone shouts at you from downwind on a fast-moving boat, the sound gets to you, but it's often masked by wind / engine noise. I think your bass is just getting lost with the other noises of wind and exhaust.
I hate to say it, but I think you just have to go bigger / louder to make the bass more discernible at speed. Probably WAY bigger. I bet performance boating guys have the same struggle you're having.
Nice setup, though. Best I've ever seen.
