Even easier to buy extended harnesses with switches already attached.....not expensive either....try MiD-USA....download their cat and then locate one of their dealers......hint tho, you need to shop their dealers for price.
You can get the complete harness with switches installed in either chrome or black for about 50 bucks...............just yank it thru the bars and connect like factory....no soldering, no splicing, no grief.

The main thing not to do!!!! Don't cut all the wires in the same place. You'll end up with a fat place in your harness. Just stagger you splices and you shouldn't have any problems.
I did mine, it was easy, just a bit time consuming.

Hey Redhwk44,
Yes I read his entire writup and was very good. I was not sure what bike he was doing but I don't believe I needed to perform the disconnection of the gas line from the tank.. I am hoping that that might pertain to a bike with a carburator and mine is Fuel Injection.. But an excellent writup, this is what I love about this community you are all great people and very helpfull.

Comfortably numb, I won't ask you how you know but thanks for the heads up. LOL
Ok guys so I just cut the sleeve to to expose the wires that I intend to extend. Well to my surprise I saw a couple of wires that that were soldered already, one was two cable into one and another was 3 cables into 1. Now is this normal? I took a picture of it for you to see.
Thanks
Harpoon
