Default unknown substance on pipes

For some reason I noticed today that there was some sort of maybe plastic or rubber that had hardened on my pipes right as they come out the engine. The stuff was actually on the shield. I could not get it off without chipping the chrome. The only thing I could do is start up the bike and let it run and I hoped as the pipe got hot the stuff would get soft and melt. It did get hot and turned soft and then I wiped it carefully off with a rag but some of the residue is still on there. I tried chrome cleaner, a Mr. Clean magic eraser (those always work for me) but there still is a small area where the residue won't come off. Any suggestions??

I use Road Rub. It's kinda like Mr. Clean's eraser but it comes in a container much like a stick of deodorant and you rub it on the affected area.

Scrape at it with a copper (brown) penny, you will not have any issues with it marking the pipes as the penny is softer than the chrome.

That works every time for road tar or melted boot, whatever is on there will come off this way, should be no issues.

Hope this helps

0000 steel wool while the pipe is warm followed by a good wax when they cool.

get the pipe warm (not hot) and put some WD 40 on a cotton cloth and wipe til its gone, also Col, Brassy works great as well as Maguires scratch remover.
