Actually the bikes from 1993 up can use the two bolt design ... My right side ( throttle side ) broke off with no passenger on and after some bantering with HD customer service ( the bike was three years old ) they provided all parts necessary to update to the 50379-7b mount which uses the two mounting bolts ... They replied "tongue in cheek" that there was a possibility of "counterfeit chinese parts" contributing to the problem.

There are many threads where this happens. Usually with Kuryakyn adjustable passenger pegs, amplifying the vibration. My whole right passenger peg assembly was lost one month after installation on my 03 FLHTCUI.

I replaced it with the Rivco adjustable passenger pegs which are much higher quality, billet aluminium, triple chrome plated, with quality machining. It had a base which hopefully dampens some vibration.

My girlfriend was getting off right side of a friends 07 Ultra when floor board board broke off. Fortunately this occurred in his garage. His bolt was stainless steel. Research revealed Stainless steel is not as strong as carbon steel, no matter the grade. He went to Home Depot and replaced both sides with carbon steel grade 8 bolt. Doing the same to my 08 Ultra.

No silly, it was the synthetic oil that caused a low vibration in the flux capacitor that oscillated back along the frame to the passenger footrest bolts causing them to thermally expand ( like Bldg 7) and fail. Jeez, do I have to explain everything????
