Almost sounds like Harley is buying Chinese bolts. NAH they would never do that to save a penny.

S/O put down left side board to mount and it fell to the floor. same as yours had been cracked a while. within a month other side fell off going down the road, yep bolt broke. local dealer said never heard of this before.

My dad has an '07 Electra Glide. His left passenger foot board literally just fell off about 4 months after he got it. He never knew it til he looked and the damned thing was GONE. Cost him $150 for a new one... The bolt had snapped off clean.

There must be something up with this...

Here's a stupid question- are we talking about the bolt that secures the bracket to the bike or the floorboard to the bracket? I'd like to check but want to make sure I'm looking at the right spot.

Thanks for the input guys. The original HD bolts are grade 8 and I had taken the floorboards off to install the covers. I did not check the torque when putting them back on, but checked with the dealer and was given torque settings of 30-35 lb-ft. The service rep said he thought that there might be some kind of vibration harmonics from the engine that could be causing the extra hard bolts to crack, but it was just a guess, as they hadn't seen others with the problem. They are going to reinstall my floorboard with a new cover to replace the scuffed one after they drill out the broken bolts.

The stock stainless bolts are grade 8's.

That is a good sized bolt,my thinking is either a defective bolt or just over tightened too many times.
