Detacheable Backrest Install

Detacheable Backrest Install
I read all the comments when I did a searchon installing the detacheable backrest and, in my case, the luggage rack. I would like to add that the instrument has yet to be invented that could measure the indifference to my experience as well.
The directions and diagramshave got to be the most confusing, poorly thought out and user unfriendly I have read in a while. After looking at it for a half hour I just did what everyone else did-toss them aside and just figured it out myself. I have afour year degree, have been riding for almost30 years and have done home repairs, added numerous accessories, and have pretty good technical aptitude.
I was dumbfounded whenI read these directions. I just kept shaking my head and thinking these photocopied pictures are horrible. How about A-do this (show picture). B-do this (show picture). C-do this (show picture) and so on. No, we get anexploded view of what could be an entire B-52 bomber.
Thank goodness common sense prevailed and just simple deduction and reasoning got the job done.
Also, you DON'T need to relocate any air line and fixture. At least I didn't.
Good news: The backrest fits well and the Mrs. loves it. The backrest paddoes seem like it should be more rigidly attached to the backplate, I didn't see any upright tabs (directions showed them, actual kit and backrest doesn'tinclude them or require them (I guess). But torque the screws and spacers tight and it stays together.

RE: Detacheable Backrest Install
I have a stack of HD instructions. Even the most simple part comes with instructions. Yes, they are the most confusing directions I've ever read.
I'm guessing that they have an entire department full of engineers working like mad to justify and keep their jobs by writing these convoluted directions. Either that or it's a conspiracy.
Any other guesses????

AZ, I did what you did also. I read the sheets of instructions a couple of times and then just gave up and did it. Worthless instructions. I left my air fill where it was too. For no more then I check or change the pressure I just remove my luggage rack when I need to.
